ADV sPIRIT CODE
OF CONDUCT
We connect adventure motorcyclists in a community that celebrates sustainable exploration of unspoiled nature, encouraging safe and passionate riding while respecting some guidelines.
This Code of Conduct outlines the values, rules, standards, and principles we expect from all members of adventure riding community.
Respect for Trails
Only use roads that the public are entitled to ride motorcycles on. Trail riding is lawful on gravel roads, commonly known as unclassified country roads Open to All Traffic. If in doubt, check with the Authority.
Group Size
Do not travel in large groups, six or fewer is ideal. Remember that trails can be fragile and susceptible to erosion, especially when wet. Please consider a detour.
Legal Compliance
Ensure motorcycles and riders are road legal, licensed, and insured. Unpaved roads are subject to the same laws as paved roads.
Defined Areas
Keep to the defined area of the gravel road. Avoid straying from the road, especially onto moorland or farmland.
Respect Other Users
Give plenty of space to walkers, horses, and cyclists. On narrow roads, stop and switch off engines when sharing the road with ridden horses. Always acknowledge other trail users with a friendly wave and a smile—it doesn’t cost anything!
Travel at Safe Speeds
Travel at a speed that is safe and sustainable for the road surface. Ride at an unobtrusive speed, taking regard of conditions and visibility. Avoid travelling at high impact speeds.
Noise Control
Ride quietly and unobtrusively. Exhausts must be effectively silenced. Use the throttle with discretion, as noise does offend. Fit silencers before arriving at the event.
Water Protection
Cross water bodies only at designated crossings and avoid polluting water with oil, fuel, or other substances.
Environmental Care
Take all waste with you, recycle where possible, and leave nature unspoiled.
Respect for Wildlife
Maintain a safe distance from animals and do not disturb their natural behaviour. Respect animal habitats and avoid intruding on the natural environment.
Respect Local Communities
Be mindful of the event’s impact on the surroundings. Respect local, their customs, and rules, and avoid noisy or disruptive activities in populated areas.
Group Riding
Follow the group leader’s instructions and maintain a safe distance between vehicles. Ride in a formed column and avoid unnecessary overtaking.
Adaptability
Be prepared for changing terrain conditions. Follow leader instructions regarding possible route changes and adjust accordingly.
Community Collaboration
If possible, engage with local communities to ensure sustainable use and preservation of the natural environment. Consult with organisers or locals regarding initiatives to support local communities.
Stay Informed
Regularly check information about the area you are travelling. Your awareness is key to preserving the natural environment and ensuring a positive experience for all.
Solidarity with Fellow Riders
Each participant is responsible for the rider behind them. Regularly check to ensure they are still following and wait at each turn or change of direction to ensure the rider behind is visible. Solidarity and attention to others will ensure a safe and connected experience for everyone.
Be a good ambassador for motorcycling
Be courteous to other road users and respect their equal entitlement to use the road. Bear in mind the difficulties of others and try not to add to them. Acknowledge others with a friendly wave or other suitable gesture. Responsible Trail Riding is a form of quiet enjoyment of the countryside. Maintain the standard of a responsible Trail Rider, so as not to disturb the tranquillity of National Parks and peaceful areas of the countryside.
By upholding this Code of Conduct, we can ensure that ADV Spirit remains a responsible and sustainable trail riding community. Let’s work together to preserve our trails and promote a positive riding experience for all.
