SLOVENIA

Predjamski castle

Slovenia is our home ground, and the perfect place to start a Balkan adventure.

In one small country you get alpine passes, emerald river valleys and endless forest gravel, all within a few hours’ ride, with iconic stops like Lake Bled, the Soča river and Predjama Castle beside the Postojna Cave along the way. Fly into Ljubljana, collect your bike and gear, and you can be on the trails the very next day.

It is the easiest and most scenic launchpad for everything that follows to the south.

Croatia might be the most varied riding on the whole trip.

One day you are carving coastal roads right next to the Adriatic, the next you are deep in the karst, climbing the ridges of Velebit and Dinara on rough gravel with the sea far below. Then the ride goes offshore: hop between the Kvarner islands of Krk, Cres and Lošinj, linking deserted island tracks by short ferry crossings.

Add the canyons of Krka and the empty Dalmatian hinterland, and you get a country where every day mixes fast sea roads, wild mountain gravel and island trails you can only reach on two wheels.

From the Croatian mountains the route crosses east into Bosnia, and the riding turns truly wild.

You climb into the Prenj and Čvrsnica ranges, the so-called Bosnian Himalayas, and up onto the high Bjelašnica plateau, on rough tracks that top out with nothing but rock and sky around you. Up here you reach Lukomir, the highest and most remote village in the country, perched on the edge of the Rakitnica canyon, one of the deepest in Europe. Then the trails drop back toward Sarajevo, where you swap gravel for the old Ottoman lanes of Baščaršija, with coffee and ćevapi after a long day in the mountains.

Remote, demanding terrain by day and a city with real soul by night, exactly the kind of adventure you came for.

Cross south from Bosnia and Montenegro packs impossible scenery into a tiny country.

You ride into Durmitor National Park over the Sedlo Pass, on high gravel between glacial peaks and past the deep blue Piva and Tara canyons, the Tara being the deepest in Europe. From the mountains the route drops all the way to the coast, down the legendary Lovćen serpentines that hang above the Bay of Kotor. One moment you are on a remote alpine plateau, the next you are looking down on a fjord-like bay from a wall of switchbacks. Few places let you ride from the high mountains to the sea in a single day like this.

ALBANIA

Albania is the final frontier, the wildest riding of the whole journey.

Crossing the border into the north, you climb into the Accursed Mountains, over the raw Qafa e Thores pass toward Theth and the Valbona valley, on tracks that feel like another continent. A ferry carries you and the bike across Lake Koman, the so-called Albanian fjord, before the trails open into the Pukë highlands, around 10,000 km² of near-empty terrain and the home of our Albania Quest 2027. Fuel is scarce, English is rare and the hospitality is genuine. This is adventure riding stripped back to its purest form, and the perfect place to finish the ride.

What every Ride the Balkans trip shares

One spirit, three ways to ride it.

Routes you would never find alone

Every route is personally researched, tested and refined by the ADV Spirit team over years of riding across the Balkans. Hidden roads, mountain tracks and remote regions you would never discover on your own.

Real adventure, not a tourist tour

Gravel roads, forest and military tracks, canyon rims and rugged highlands. This is the Balkans the way they are meant to be ridden, not a sightseeing loop.

Fly in and ride

No shipping your own bike across Europe. Land in the region, collect an expedition-ready motorcycle with luggage and gear, and be on the trails the same or next day. You can choose between Kove, Husqvarna or Honda bikes.

Small groups only

Every trip is capped at a handful of riders. It keeps the experience personal, flexible and low impact, and gives you access to routes that do not work for big groups.

Built around you

From fully guided and supported to completely self-guided, every trip is shaped to your experience, your pace and the time you have. You ride your adventure, not someone else's schedule.

Logistics handled, freedom kept

Prepared bikes, tested GPX routes, a proper briefing, airport transfer and support on the road. We take care of the planning so all you focus on is the ride.

So, is this your kind of adventure?

FOR YOU, if you want a real adventure, not a package holiday, and memories that last long after the ride.

FOR YOU, if you want to share the road with like-minded riders, or ride your own way in complete freedom.

FOR YOU, if you dream of the wild corners of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro and Albania, on roads most people never see.

FOR YOU, whether you are stepping onto gravel for the first time or you have crossed continents, because every trip is built around your level.

FOR YOU, if you want to grow as a rider, gaining confidence and skill with every kilometre in real terrain.

FOR YOU, if you ride an Adventure, Dual Sport or Enduro motorcycle, or want to rent one of ours, and hold a valid driving licence.

FOR YOU, because you always wanted to plan a trip like this yourself, but never found the time. We have already ridden and mapped it all, so you just show up and ride.

The bike comes with the trip

Every Ride the Balkans trip includes an expedition-ready adventure motorcycle, so you fly in with nothing but your riding kit. Choose from Kove, Husqvarna or Honda, each prepared with a phone mount and proper protection. Enduristan luggage and the full travel package are available at an additional cost, and rider gear and protection from Leatt, LS2 and Adventure Specs can be rented too.

KOVE 450 RALLY

The backbone of our fleet. A modern, lightweight rally bike that stays agile on technical terrain yet has the big tank and rally ergonomics for long days in the backcountry. A confident all-rounder for gravel, mountain tracks and the odd technical section, and the bike our expeditions are built around.

HUSQVARNA 701

A big-bore single with real punch. The 701 loves fast gravel and long transfers, mixing genuine off-road ability with the power to eat up the asphalt between trails. Best suited to experienced riders who want more speed and a bike that keeps pushing.

HONDA 300 CRF

The easiest bike to love. Light, low and endlessly forgiving, the CRF 300L builds confidence fast and is ideal for riders newer to adventure terrain or for lighter, off-road-focused days. Simple, reliable and happy on gravel from morning to evening.
